Marie Jahoda Best Early Paper Award

Call for nominations for the Marie Jahoda Best Early Paper Award from the DGS Section for Medical and Health Sociology

Since the advent of sociology, the examination of topics pertaining to medical and health sociology has been a hallmark of general sociological theory of society. Every two years at the Congress of the German Sociological Association, the DGS Section for Medical and Health Sociology therefore awards a prize for the best early paper in the field of medical and health sociology accepted for publication in a German- or English-language sociological journal. The prize has been established to recognize scientific contributions that exemplify the scientific life›s work of the prize‹s namesake. These contributions employ the extensive array of sociological methods and concepts in an empirical analysis to advance general sociological theory. (1)

Procedure: The prize will be awarded for the first time at the GSA Congress in Mainz in 2026. The laudatory speech and the award-winning essay will be published on the section›s website. In addition, the prize includes prize money of €400. Submissions are welcome from both first authors and other members of the GSA (with the consent of the first author) until 31.05.2026 to the jury. The jury consists of one additional member and three members of the section‹s executive committee: Sandra Jaworeck, Nadine Reibling and Johann Behrens. There is no age limit for applicants, but applicants should not have published more than four essays in sociological journals in order for the essay to still be considered an early paper. If no essay meeting the above criteria is submitted, the jury reserves the right to suspend the award until suitable essays have been received. Jury criteria
