Call for Papers

Second International User Conference of the German Family Demography Panel Study FReDA 2024

Deadline: April 21st, 2024

The second international FReDA User Conference will be held in Mannheim, Germany, on 7 and 8 October 2024. We invite submissions from national and international researchers from all disciplines on any topic using data from the German Family Demography Panel Study FReDA, the German Family Panel pairfam, and/or the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS). The conference will be held in English.

The goals of the FReDA User Conference are to provide both early-career and experienced researchers with a forum in which to present preliminary results, receive comments and feedback from experienced FReDA/pairfam/GGS data users and staff, and facilitate future collaborations.

Interested researchers are invited to submit an abstract for a presentation by email to support.freda(at)gesis.org. Abstracts should be no longer than one DIN-4 page and must include the title of the presentation and the names, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all authors. Please state the data used, the research question(s), the theoretical background, the method, and the results.

The submission deadline is 21 April 2024. Each proposal will go through a review process, and acceptance notifications will be communicated by 16 May 2024. Depending on the number of submissions, the reviewer team may assign some submissions to an additional poster session.

The FReDA User Conference will be held in person. There will be no conference fee, and catering will be provided. Travel costs cannot be reimbursed. Further information about the conference can be found here: https://www.freda-panel.de/FReDA/EN/News-Events/FReDA-Userconference-2024/freda-userconference-2024.html

Keynotes will be delivered by Prof. Pia Schober (Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen) on ›(Un)doing Gender in Romantic Relationships of Young Adults‹ and by Prof. Denis Gerstorf (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) ›On the Role of Historical Change for Adult Development (in Midlife)‹.

The best conference presentation will be selected by a jury and awarded a prize of €500 sponsored by the infas Institute for Applied Social Science in Bonn. For more details about the German Family Demography Panel Study FReDA, please refer to our project website at www.freda-panel.de.
